FollowMe printing allows you to send a document to a secure print queue and then release it at any district copier when you're ready. This ensures sensitive print jobs remain confidential, as they only print after you authenticate at the device.
Here's how the process works from start to finish:
Phase 1: Sending the Print Job from Your Device
- Open your document: Open the file, email, or webpage you wish to print on your computer or mobile device.
- Open the Print Menu: Navigate to File > Print (or press
Ctrl + P on Windows / Cmd + P on Mac), or click the Print icon. - Select the FollowMe Queue: From the printer selection dropdown menu, choose the FollowMe queue. The standard queue is named FollowMe. Additional queues for specific finishing options (e.g., stapling, hole punching) are also available and named accordingly, such as FollowMe-Staple or FollowMe-3HolePunch.
- Adjust your settings: Select your preferences, such as black and white versus color, single-sided versus double-sided, and the number of copies.
- Click Print: Send the job.
- Note: Nothing will physically print yet. Your document is now securely held in the server, waiting for you to release it.
Phase 2: Releasing the Print Job at the Copier
Now that your job is in the queue, you can walk up to any copier in the district and release it.
- Approach the copier: Go to the machine where you want to collect your printed documents. This can be any copier within the district.
- Authenticate yourself: Use the touchscreen to enter your employee number. If you are unsure of your employee ID, it can be found in Atrieve, PowerSchool, or your user profile in Outlook/M365/Google.
- Open the Print Release app: Once logged in, you will see the home screen. Tap the Print Release button.
- Select your documents: A list of all print jobs you have sent to the queue will appear.
- To print all pending jobs, press Print All.
- To print specific items, tap the individual documents to highlight them, then press Print. When printing this way, you can also adjust options like color or black and white on the subsequent screen.
- (Optional) If you sent something by mistake, you can usually highlight it and tap the Trash or Delete icon to remove it from the queue without wasting paper.
- Collect your paper: The machine will activate and print your selected documents.
- Log out: For security, always remember to log out when you are finished. Most machines have a physical "Log Out" or "Access" button, or a log-out icon on the touchscreen. (Many machines will automatically log you out after 30-60 seconds of inactivity, but manual log-out is best practice)
